Man Charged with Inflicting Serious Injuries on Infant in Eagle Lake

An Eagle Lake man has been arrested and faces charges for allegedly inflicting life-threatening injuries on a 20-month-old child. The incident led to the young child suffering critical injuries, including a fractured spine.

Daytin James Zimmerman-Fatis, 23, is being held accountable for the severe assault on the toddler, prompting an immediate criminal response from local authorities. The Blue Earth County Court has pressed felony 1st-degree assault charges against Zimmerman-Fatis.

According to reports, on February 19, the boy was brought to an area hospital by his mother and another individual after displaying concerning bruises across his face and scalp. Medical examination at the hospital quickly escalated to an urgent transfer to another facility in Rochester due to the severity of his condition.

Medical professionals found the young victim to have extensive bruising over most of his body, including his face, chest, back, buttocks, stomach, and legs. A broken blood vessel in his eye was noted, alongside potentially fatal internal injuries, such as lacerations to his kidney, liver, and lower bowels. Upon further examination, the child was also discovered to have a spinal fracture and ligament damage, primarily indicative of serious abdominal trauma.

The sequence of events before the child’s hospitalization was scrutinized, with significant attention paid to photos from the day before the injuries were discovered, showing no visible marks on the young child.
