Dr. Peter Zahos

Dr. Peter Zahos is a board-certified, Yale-educated neurosurgeon who specializes in brain and spinal tumor resection, endovascular image-guided technology, and stereotactic radiosurgery.

Dr. Peter Zahos completed his undergraduate education at Yale University, where he majored in Religious Studies. Upon his graduation in 1984, Dr. Zahos enrolled in the George Washington University School of Medicine, earning his residency in neurosurgery through the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. In fact, in 1996, Montefiore Medical Center appointed Dr. Zahos to the position of Chief Resident in Neurosurgery in recognition of his outstanding surgical skill and grace under pressure.

In 2003, Dr. Zahos elected to supplement his education by accepting a Fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery and Stereotactic Radiosurgery from the University of California (Los Angeles).

Currently, Dr. Zahos works at NJ Spine & Orthopedic, the International Spine Institute, and Advanced Orthopedics & Neurosurgery, where he oversees the neurology and oncology departments. Previously, Dr. Zahos has also served as the Director of the Brain Tumor Programs for Geisinger Health System, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Cleveland Clinic Florida; the Director of Movement Disorders for the Meridian Health System and New Jersey Neuroscience Institute; and the Director of Neurosurgery for Staten Island University Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Florida.

Committed to advancing minimally invasive treatments to resolve spine disorders, Dr. Zahos has been awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to explore non-thermal pulsed focused ultrasound in the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration. A prolific researcher, Dr. Zahos has been featured in such esteemed peer-reviewed publications as Journal of Spinal Disorders, American Journal of Emergency Medicine, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Journal of Craniovertebral Junction & Spine, among others.
