Thank you for giving me my life back. It is an amazing gift to be an active participant in your own life--in every facet of it.
The purpose of minimally invasive treatment is to treat a wide variety of spinal disorders with the least amount of trauma to the surrounding tissue. Our accredited and board-certified spine surgeons always provide patients with a comprehensive evaluation of their spinal condition and a diagnosis that helps determine the best path for recovery.
NJSO encourages our patients to explore all treatment options before making a final decision. Many choose a minimally invasive procedure rather than traditional surgical methods.
Surgeries that involve minimized invasiveness to correct diseases related to the spine include benefits like:
All of these lead to overall better quality of life and typically produce better results.
Our minimally invasive spine treatments utilize a small endoscope with a camera attached to its end. The endoscope enters the body through a tiny incision made in the skin. The surgeon then uses specially designed surgical tools to move tissue and muscles away from the spinal area and gain access to the affected area. Because tissue and muscles are only moved and not cut, trauma, pain, and bleeding are all considerably reduced.
Reduced Pain
Decreased Trauma
Faster Recovery Times
Our team of spinal specialists will carefully assess your health condition to determine whether minimal laser spine surgery is the right treatment for you. At NJSO, our doctors always start with conservative treatment options before we recommend surgery, which could include:
Pain management
Pain management treatment plans will include a review of any current prescriptions, the type and location of your pain, and recommendations for medication to treat your discomfort. This managed care could also include injection therapies to isolate the source of the pain and provide relief.
Physical therapy
Strengthening spinal muscles and ligaments is often the first course of treatment for patients dealing with flare-ups due to degenerative disc disease (DDS) and other strains.
Therapeutic ice and/or heat
For some patients, traditional approaches like five- to twenty-minute applications of ice or heat can prove extremely therapeutic to their spine condition. In conjunction with physical therapy, this treatment can bring much-needed pain relief and stimulate healing.
In circumstances where conservative treatment plans aren’t working, then we use minimally invasive spine surgery to ease your pain and help you get back to the life you once enjoyed.
If you suffer from chronic spine, back, or neck pain, our outpatient spinal procedures may be the perfect solution for you.

The spine serves as the very foundation for your musculoskeletal system. If you are in pain, you need to know why. Learn more about the many spine conditions that affect patients every day and discover how NJSO can provide treatment options best suited for your spinal issues. Our team of board-certified surgeons provides life-changing procedures for a wide range of spine-related injuries and diseases, including:
When a vertebra or disc begins adding pressure on the spinal cord, this can lead to an injury resulting in debilitating pain and mobility loss. Spinal cord injuries can occur from trauma to the back, resulting in the vertebrae or discs pushing onto the spinal cord and causing pain or loss of movement.
Degenerative Disc Disease and Other Related Vertebral Conditions
As we age or suffer from an injury to our backs, deteriorating spinal conditions like arthritis, spinal stenosis, and others can begin to affect our daily lives with constant pain and difficulty moving around.
Ruptures, Tears, and Herniations of Discs
For a torn or bulging disc to occur, there is often a history of injury, accident, or a congenital structural abnormality of the spinal column.
Spinal Deformities
Spinal structures that do not form correctly result in alignment and stability issues due to conditions like scoliosis.
“The people that work at NJ Spine and Orthopedic are the best! Dr. Katzman did my back surgery one year ago. I had severe sciatic pain that went from above my hip to the bottom of my foot. After surgery, my pain was totally gone. Literally overnight. And I only had to take one day off work!”
– Kathleen A., January 2017

“I have had my neck surgery with Dr. Scott Katzman. I have found Dr. Katzman to be a skilled and outstanding surgeon. He is the Doctor that I found that helped me when others could not. My neck is far better today than it was before surgery and I am so far happy with the results…”
